The Harris Hill Series: our charity events
As part of our commitment to supporting the charity sector, we're delighted to be sponsoring the Harris Hill Charity Series of inter-charity challenge events, for an eighth consecutive year!
The series consists of a number of hotly contested events that include:
- The Charity Quiz Night
- The London Charity Softball League
- Ten Pin Bowling Night
With the events growing more popular every year, well over 100 charities were involved in the 2016 series, with more than 1,000 participants and supporters getting involved, and 2017 looks set to be even bigger! Charities fielding teams include RNIB, CRUK, Sparks, VSO, the British Heart Foundation, the Teenage Cancer Trust, NSPCC, CLIC Sargent, Marie Curie, Diabetes UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and many (many!) more.
As well as sponsoring the Harris Hill Charity Series, staff at Harris Hill regularly organise and participate in a range of charity fundraising activities, from ping-pong challenges to sponsored walks, the London Marathon and intrepid cycle rides!
Charity Quiz Night - February 2017
We're delighted to say that this year's quiz night on 21st Feb was a record-breaking success! Packed to capacity as ever, a fantastic selection of prizes from fellow sponsors Snap Print Management, together with the teams' generosity, helped us to achieve record sales of raffle tickets, contributing to a grand total of more than £1500 raised for the Mental Health Foundation.
Huge thanks to everyone involved in organising, our excellent hosts Patch Bar, Snap Print Management, and many congratulations to the team at Friends of the Earth UK who can legitimately claim to be the smartest people in the charity sector, at least for the next 12 months! Obviously as key sponsors, our very own Harris Hill team were playing just for fun, deliberately trying not to win: clearly the only possible explanation for our score so we're sticking to it!
The London Charity Softball League 2017
This year's season is already well underway and things are starting to hot up!
You can find all the fixtures and results updated weekly here and don't forget to check out the @CharitySoftball Twitter feed for updates from the pitches (and occasionally the pub).
Last summer's league was by far the biggest ever with over 120 charities from all corners of the third sector, including lots of new names taking up the challenge for the first time. With a maximum possible 88 teams, the tireless and super-efficient organising committee (read more about them here!) did an inspired job of combining charities with fewer players into full-sized formidable teams, allowing more organisations to get involved and forging some fantastic inter-charity friendships along the way.
With bucket-loads of commitment and enthusiasm come rain (and did it ever..) or shine, the teams fought it out valiantly for the Cup, the Plate, and new trophy the Shield, sponsored by the brilliant team at Blue Step Solutions.
