Direct Marketing Manager

A great opportunity has arisen for a Direct Marketing Manager (3 months FTC) for a charity based in central London in order to lead on coordination with key stakeholders across the organisation as well as with external partners. You will also support teams on implementation of some campaign activities as necessary, and proactively work with all stakeholders to identify and develop new opportunities for fundraising and awareness raising, across all income streams.



Key Responsibilities will include:

Plan and develop a balanced and integrated UK-wide appeals direct marketing programme in line with fundraising objectives and in doing so build the charity brand.
Responsible for delivering the direct marketing and committed giving activities to agreed targets and key performance indicators (KPI"s), monitoring, evaluating and reporting back as necessary.
Ensure synergy with other fundraising teams at the charity (such as Regional Operational teams, Community & Events, Digital) so that the donor is placed firmly at the centre of all communication planning activity allowing maximum opportunity for cross-sell and up-sell where possible and giving donors recruited by Direct Marketing.
Maximise all opportunities to develop segmentation and improve targeting through data analysis and profiling to increase performance levels.
Increase the charity"s understanding of donor needs and motivations and their relation to giving/supporting behaviour to boost effectiveness of DM campaign activity.
Build and develop relationships with direct marketing agencies and suppliers in order to deliver the optimum levels of performance and ensure continuous improvement.
Deliver effective cost and income management maximising budgetary spend, monitoring trends and benchmarking performance on an ongoing basis.
Promote and develop the effective use of direct marketing to deliver direct communications to varied and specific audiences applying best practice.

In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:

A strong track record of successfully fundraising from individuals. (E)
A demonstrable understanding of how to deliver high levels of customer service and care.
Excellent knowledge of direct marketing principles. (E)
Experience of implementing a data strategy and managing and maintaining a supporter database. (E)
Experience in delivering successful direct marketing campaigns in a fundraising team. (E)
Experience of working with fundraising databases, using segmentation and carrying out data selections from a marketing or fundraising database. (E)
Experience of manipulating, interpreting and analysing data.
Experience of using the web and social media for fundraising purposes.
Experience of working to budgets and managing resources effectively.
Knowledge of legacy marketing strategy.
Knowledge of legislation and best practice guidelines relating to Gift Aid, payroll giving, gaming such as raffles and Prize Draws, direct debits and Data Protection. (E)
Clear understanding of how to develop and maximise the lifetime value of a donor through effective communications planning. (E)
Initiative and creativity to develop new systems and activities to generate income from individuals.
Understanding of other fundraising disciplines including trust fundraising, corporate sponsorship and statutory fundraising.
Experience of working in a charity that has grown through fundraising.
Ability to analyse and prepare income and expenditure budgets, forecast donor income and report on results. (E)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including copywriting for fundraising purposes, for online and offline materials. (E)
Excellent attention to detail.
Excellent project management and organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise and deliver against a varied workload, under your own initiative and to strict deadlines. (E)
