Communications Officer

Harris Hill are working with a health charity, who are seeking a Communications Officer to focus on media relations and content creation, to contribute to the delivery of the charity"s communications activity in line with the overall strategy and annual plans.
This is a brand new role, with lots of opportunities.

Key responsibilities:

-Respond quickly to media enquiries, identifying appropriate spokespeople where necessary, drafting and providing statements in line with the charity"s vision and core values
-Lead on proactive media relations, identifying stories from around the charity to work into press releases or individual pitches for specific media outlets
-Lead collaborative PR activity with external organisations on new service launches and corporate partnerships, overseeing input and sign off from a range of stakeholders
-Work with families affected by the health disease to create case studies that can be used for media and fundraising work
-Work with specialist nurses, to find strong stories for media outreach and identify possible future charity spokespeople
-Support the Communications Managers in delivering the communications strategy
-Support the brand awareness raising activity of the communications team through development of coordinated PR plans and activity
-Spearhead the PR plan and activity for campaigns
-Work alongside the Digital Lead to deliver collaborative media and social media activity
-Work alongside the Communications Executive to record and report on media activity and corresponding coverage
-Write copy for teams across the charity, including case studies, web content, enewsletter stories, thank you letters, presentations for supporters, advice leaflets for family carers etc.

Qualifications and person specification:

-Excellent knowledge of all areas of media
-Understanding of national, regional, broadcast, online and trade PR
-Good understanding of charity/ third sector PR
-Excellent written skills
-Excellent verbal communication skills including face to face and by phone
-Ability to handle sensitive issues and respond accordingly
-Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritise workload whilst maintaining attention to detail
-The ability to work effectively as part of a team
-Strong creativity and innovation skills
-A flexible approach with a strong focus on results
-Knowledge of internal communications would be advantageous
-Experience of national, regional, broadcast, online and trade PR, with a particular focus on the charitable sector
-Experience of proactively sourcing, devising, writing and pitching media stories, resulting in quality coverage
-Experience of liaising with key stakeholders at every level of an organisation
-Experience of writing across a broad spectrum of PR and communications formats
-Experience of digesting complicated ideas or clinical information and turning it into clear, simple, compelling copy
