Food Bank Aid in North London is seeking an immediately available, inspirational, entrepreneurial, collaborative strategic leader to join us for the next 6 months as our Interim CEO. You will review our operations, processes and structure to ensure we are as efficient as possible and delivering the best service to the network of 32 food banks we work with, and that we are primed for growth.

Established 4 years ago, our mission is to distribute essential items like food, toiletries, and household goods to food banks across Barnet, Brent, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow, Hertfordshire, and Islington. Through our network of 32 food banks, we support approximately 20,000 individuals, including 5,000 children, every week. With a dedicated team of 4 staff, 300 active volunteers, and an engaged board of trustees, we are a community-led charity that serves all denominations and demographics.

About the Role:

As our Interim Chief Executive Officer, you will lead the organisation, reporting directly to the Trustees through the Co-Chairs of the Board. Your primary responsibility will be to review our operations, processes, and structure to ensure maximum efficiency and top-notch service delivery. This role requires effective leadership of both staff and volunteers, along with the implementation of systems and processes to enhance our operations. You will need to balance day-to-day management with strategic planning, demonstrating adaptability and clear decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

Key Details:

  • Role: Interim Chief Executive Officer – Food Bank Aid

  • Salary: £90,000 pro rata

  • Contract: 6 months, full-time role

  • Start date: As soon as possible / immediate

  • Location: mostly on-site at our hub in London N12

What We're Looking For:

  1. Leadership: Effective management of employees, including target setting and oversight, to ensure efficient operations.

  2. Governance: Working with effective partnership with trustees to ensure they can perform their responsibilities to the charity.

  3. Volunteer Management: Visible and involved with volunteers on a day-to-day basis, focusing on morale, recruitment, and retention.

  4. Fundraising: Implementation of strategies to improve engagement and donations from Corporates and trusts/donor entities.

  5. Analysis: Using strong analytical skills to gather, examine and use data to improve systems, policies and processes.

  6. Project Support: Assisting with specific projects like launching new systems, volunteer retention, and developing corporate partnerships.

  7. Recruitment and Infrastructure: Determining longer-term requirements and developing a recruitment plan.

  8. Hands-On Management: Willingness to work in a small team and assist with various tasks as needed.

  9. Interest in Food Banks: Ideally, a demonstrable interest in the mission and work of food banks.
