Assistant Archivist

Job description

An International charity are looking for an Assistant Archivist. Under the overall supervision of the Archivist, the primary role of the Assistant Archivist is to support in all aspects on the Centenary Archive Collection project. The focus of the work will be on making the archives of the charity and all Centers available to the public through a specifically designed website. Please note this role is a 7 months FTC.
Key responsibilities
To participate in the development and cataloguing of the charity's Centenary Archive Collection.
To support the charity's Centenary Archivist in the development of the charity's Centenary Archive Collection's website by actively participating in the process of design and test, in collaboration with the web designers.
To transcribe and edit interviews of members.
To edit and proofread the captions according to the International criteria
To support the Archivist and the team by revising the texts sent by the translators.
To support with enquiries from the membership via telephone and email.
To carry out any necessary administrative tasks in relation to the post.

Person specification
Experience of working within an archive.
Experience of working with databases.
Experience of cataloguing to recognised standards.
Experience of conducting research in private and public archives.
Recognised postgraduate qualification in archive and records management.
Experience of using WordPress.
Experience in editing texts.
Experience of working for an international organization.
Experience in an arts/literature/journalism/human rights environment.
Appreciation, knowledge and understanding of freedom of expression issues.
Interest in literature and writing.
