Chair

Job description

Are you looking for a pivotal Chair role which will shape the future of a national charity working on a key social justice challenge?  Are you an experienced professional who wants to use your talents to improve the lives of people across the UK? At The Hygiene Bank, we are looking for a new Chair to work alongside a committed team of Trustees, staff, volunteers and Chief Executive Officer.

We are a grassroots, people-powered charity and social movement, grounded in community. Our passion stems from the injustice that people may be unable to fully participate in society due to hygiene poverty. This is why we work to inspire social change.

At The Hygiene Bank, we believe it is not right that feeling clean should be a luxury or a privilege for anyone in our society, yet many are living in poverty and cannot afford to stay clean. That is why our network of projects exists – to give people access to the basics they need. Through supplying products to people who need them and through innovative, compelling campaigning activity, we will fulfil our mission – to end hygiene poverty for good.

We have been through huge growth since we started in 2018. Last year, we appointed a new CEO and published our ground-breaking research report, Hygiene Poverty 2022. We are now working on our next three year strategy, key to which will be developing its campaigning work with the ultimate aim of ending hygiene poverty for good, as well as scaling the project work with a strong focus on better targeting and impact. As we move from a start-up to a scale-up phase, as Chair you will lead us in putting hygiene poverty on the map, as we leverage our grassroots insight and corporate partnerships to influence policy, and tackle hygiene poverty at root cause as well as alleviating the effects.
