Community Development Manager

Job description

A community centre based in North Croydon are looking for a Community Development Manager. The successful candidate will be working closely with the Minister and the Community Centre Management Committee, the Community Development Manager will lead and manage employees and volunteers to develop and deliver services, activities and opportunities through community engagement within the area. Please note this role is a 3-year FTC.

Key responsibilities

  • Developing related services, activities, opportunities, and choices based on local need and integrating them fully with the existing provision
  • Overseeing the smooth running of the existing provision according to the terms of current service level agreements and partnership agreements
  • Identifying political, economic, social, technological or ecological trends, opportunities and risks
  • Developing a network of volunteers to support the delivery of community services
  • Providing a leadership role model and demonstrating expert knowledge and high standards of community development practice
  • Taking responsibility for motivating, developing and supporting training opportunities for staff and volunteers
  • Taking responsibility for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all services and adhere to the confidentiality of information
  • Completing and submitting all necessary reports according to the terms of service delivery contracts, partnership agreements and grant-making bodies
  • Developing, assessing and implementing guidelines and policies
  • Monitoring income and expenditure within the annual community services budgets using monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • Prepare an annual budget for the community services
  • Facilitating the safety and security of the premises and equipment to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety policies
  • Identifying and intervening where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for service

Person specification

  • Evidence of relevant professional development
  • Evidence of project management training
  • Demonstrable experience of community development and partnership working in a diverse urban setting
  • Demonstrable experience of launching, promoting, managing and reviewing new projects
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of partnership, service level and licence agreements
  • Demonstrable experience of facilities management, including maintenance, health and safety and risk assessments, and contract management
  • Demonstrable experience of obtaining and responding to client feedback
  • experience of community outreach and service promotion
