Are you experienced in developing and implementing targeted organisational fundraising or partnerships strategy? Are you detail-orientated but also able to see the big picture and relish responsibility?

Harris Hill is delighted to be working with a leading environmental international charity, who due to rapid growth has a new requirement for a Development Manager - Governments.

As Development Manager for Governments, a key aspect of your role will be working to identify and develop strong relationships with national, bilateral and multilateral government agencies capable of supporting the charity's work globally. You will contribute to and implement a strategy for government funding in coordination experienced government grants team located in the UK, US, Europe and Brazil. You will have strong expertise in commercial tenders, in particular from UK public entities. Reporting directly to the Senior Development Manager, Governments, you will be an independent thinker who can help build out and grow the government funding portfolio and within that, the commercial income stream.

This is an emerging and exciting funding stream for the organisation so the successful candidate will need to be able to take leadership on outlining the strategic potential; build a business case for systems and structures needed to support this strategic approach and also be able to coordinate internally and set up these systems from a low starting point.

To succeed in this role:

  • Experience in the area of institutional donor-oriented business development, developing and implementing commercial tenders and institutional grants, preferably in an NGO environment.
  • The ideal candidate should have a substantial experience of working for a not-for-profit organisation in in a fundraising or income generating role and have a proven success of developing and implementing a targeted organisational fundraising and/or partnerships strategy.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the UK and global funding landscape and a track-record of developing successful funding proposals and effective management of UK funded grants and commercial tenders.


This role can be home based. However, when it is safe to do so you would be required to visit the London office once a month+.

The organisation drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Working with 650 institutional investors with assets of US$87 trillion.

Salary is £42,000 - £46,000
