Job description

A charity are looking for a Lawyer to be the main point of contact to provide high quality guidance and advice on a spectrum of legal matters across the charity.

You will be the central point of control and referral, if needed, for use of external legal provision. Including the development of a cost-effective framework of legal provision across the range of required specialisms.

You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, so it is important to be a team player, with good communication skills (both written and verbal) and ability to build strong relationships across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
-To act as the central point of contact to provide high quality legal guidance and advice on a spectrum of legal matters across the Charity, particularly commercial law matters, with responsibility of highlighting risks when entering into a range of agreements, and to a lesser extent: employment, pension, property and legacies advice where outsourced to external providers
-To influence and liaise with internal stakeholders to develop and implement standard precedents, policies and procedures to facilitate standard practices across the Charity to promote legal compliance and best practice to protect Charity assets and to reduce risk and financial exposure
-To work in collaboration with the Procurement Manager to ensure contracts are robust and fit for purpose.
-To act as the central point of control and referral, if needed, for use of external legal provision. The development of a cost-effective framework of legal provision across the range of required specialisms, including the identification of sources of supply and negotiating best value
-To support the development and maintenance of registers of property leases, property deeds and trademarks so that they are fit for purpose and within legal frameworks
-To provide training/support and guidance to all users across the organisation on contracting and legal issues. This will include developing a training plan to support teams to become more legally aware and to promote best practice by providing training on matters such as contract law and other relevant legal issues
-To advise on legal risks, actions to take to mitigate those risks and strategies for negotiation. This role will also develop, manage and maintain a risk register and report any areas of risk to the Head of Corporate Services.

Skills and Experience required:
-Qualified as a solicitor, barrister or legal executive with experience working in commercial and contract law for a minimum of 2 years
-Understanding of charity law
-Experience of resolving contractual issues with suppliers and other internal and external stakeholders
-Excellent collaboration skills to contribute proactively and supportively to the delivery of team initiatives, these may include a wide range of issues potentially outside main area of expertise
-Proven influencing, negotiation and motivation skill
-Ideally experience working in a legal capacity at a not for profit organisation
