Grants Officer

Harris Hill is delighted to be recruiting for a Grants Officer on behalf of a growing and entrepreneurial charity supporting high-value philanthropy and grant-making in the UK and internationally.

Salary: Starting from £40,000 + generous benefits
Location: Marylebone, London (hybrid – 3 days office-based, 2 days WFH)

This is an exciting opportunity for a grants professional with strong knowledge of UK charity law and grant-making to join a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organisation and play a key role in increasing the flow of funding into the charitable sector.

The role:  You will manage and assess grants across a range of portfolios, including complex and international programmes, ensuring funding decisions are robust, compliant and appropriately risk-assessed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing grant requests and undertaking appropriate due diligence.
  • Making well-reasoned grant recommendations based on risk, charity law and regulatory guidance.
  • Advising colleagues on grant-making, compliance and complex cases.
  • Managing high-risk, complex and international grant applications.
  • Liaising with grantee organisations and supporting donor communications.
  • Monitoring grant reports, compliance requirements and reporting obligations.
  • Maintaining accurate, audit-ready grant and due diligence records.
  • Keeping up to date with charity law, regulation and sector best practice.
  • Supporting improvements to grant-making systems and processes.
  • Developing guidance and training for colleagues.
  • Supporting external communications, events and networking where required.

About you

You will have:

  • At least 3 years' experience in a grant-making role within a UK charity or philanthropic organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of UK charity law and Charity Commission guidance.
  • Experience managing complex international grants.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Sound professional judgement and attention to detail.
  • A pragmatic, entrepreneurial and solutions-focused approach.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with grant management systems and reporting tools.
