Associate Director

Job description

A fantastic new opportunity has arisen for an Associate Director to join one of the UK's leading research funders. This role will work within a new independent research and deliberative body with a mission to examine the impact of data, algorithms and AI on people and society and to promote and support ethical practise in public interest. With 5 million secured for its first five years (up to 2023), the Institute is already taking a lead on defining the complex and far reaching social and ethical implications of developments in the use of data and AI in the UK, and is building relationships internationally.

As an Associate Director, you will work with the Director as part of the senior team to develop and establish the new Institute, contributing to the research and strategic agenda, leading on engagement and partnerships and on aspects of governance and operations. You are likely to have strong experience of developing projects or initiatives from inception and have led small teams. You must have a demonstrable interest in the issues surrounding the individual benefits and social consequences of AI and data-driven technologies and the intellectual agility and flexibility to adapt with the Institute as it develops. In addition, you will need to be skilled in either operations/governance of small independent organisations and/or have relevant skills in engagement/convening and developing partnership and financial support. The Associate Director will have a role in shaping and managing the research programme.

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and develop the Institute at an early stage in its development.
