Deputy CEO

Job description

The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) is a professional body of international specialists in dermatology formed to promote and represent the best interests of dermatologists and patients affected by diseases of the skin.

The BAD was formed in 1920 and in 1923 the membership was just 53. Today, there are over 2,000 members from both the UK and overseas and the functions of the BAD are changing and growing. Services have developed into other fields such as practical public education, research and service delivery.

We have a highly capable and committed team of 41 staff, a turnover of 5.4m and assets of 10m, as well as owning the freehold of our headquarters in London.

We are in the process of appointing a new CEO to succeed our long-standing and hugely respected CEO Marilyn Benham when she retires later this year. To support the new CEO in their continuation of the significant organisational growth Marilyn has led over recent years, we have created the new position of Deputy CEO. This broad internal leadership role will be key to delivering the organisational capacity and resilience we need as we further grow and develop the organisation and our services to our members. The Deputy CEO will do this by working closely with the CEO, colleagues on the SMT and the Board to identify and tackle challenges and opportunities.

The successful candidate, amongst other criteria, will have experience of:

  • Senior management in an organisation or department of comparable scale and complexity in the academic education or health sectors
  • Professional involvement at an influential level in managing a broad range of business areas (HR, governance, strategy, business development, health and safety, systems, etc)
  • Developing and maintaining organisation-wide policies and procedures
  • Project management experience

We encourage applicants who are from underrepresented groups with protected characteristics, as we value having a diverse pool of applicants to find the best candidate.
