Editorial Assistant

Job description

An international women's health charity seek an Editorial Assistant ASAP until a permanent person has been found. The client is therefore open to a possible temp to perm placement.

As an Editorial Assistant, you will support the Managing Editor with their monthly journal. The primary purpose of the journal are:

(1) to serve an international audience by publishing original scientific articles and communications originating in developing countries, emphasising the important medical problems, issues, and perspectives of the developing world (such as maternal mortality and family planning); as well as publishing original articles and communications from the scientific community of developed countries, with particular emphasis on sharing advances.
(2) to further the organisational purposes by providing a means of bringing to the readership decisions of the officers and executive board, reports of the standing committees, and by providing information from the World Health Organization and those other important international organisations that deal with maternal and child health.

Main responsibilities:
Responsible for various stages of the online Wiley, from submission to production.
Quality control checks of new submissions according to submission requirements and liaison with the Editor as necessary.
First-stage assessment of papers, identification of missing data and correspondence with authors regarding return of unsuitable papers.
Liaison with the Editor to identify and obtain high-quality reviewers and reviews.
Running reports and coordinating reminder messages to authors and reviewers.
Notifying authors of reject and preliminary accept decisions.
Associated work, such as responding to queries from authors and reviewers (responsible for the Journal email inbox).

Additional duties:
Coordinating actions arising from the Editorial Board meetings, in conjunction with team members.
Providing cover for the Manuscript Editor's Editorial Manager tasks during periods of absence.
Developing and maintaining content on the pages of the website.
Collating journal articles for broader promotional activity in line with organisations formal Communications Schedule
Assistance with preparation of prize paper award certificates, reviewer acknowledgments, presentations for meeting, quarterly pipeline status updates, and additional publications, as necessary.
Liaison with the technical team to update the Health Advance platform
Other duties compatible with employment may be given by the Managing Editor, Editor, Director Communications, Advocacy and Publications or Chief Executive. The Editorial and Marketing Assistant is line managed by the Managing Editor.

Experience:
Experience within an STM journal publishing environment, preferably medical publishing.
Knowledge of publishing policies and standards
Copy editing experience
