Evaluation and Learning Specialist

Job description

I am currently looking for an experienced Evaluation and Learning Specialist for an innovative educational charity.
This temporary role sits within the Research & Learning team and is part of the charity's Strategy, Research and Performance directorate. To help make best of its resources to improve the lives of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Their role is to gather and use evidence as effectively and efficiently as possible to improve the work of the charity. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation to help generate, refine and review evidence; find ways of illuminating their achievements and highlight areas for improvement. 
Your work will ensure the strategy and programmatic work is based on the best evaluation and research information. You will help evaluate the charity's programmes and activities to help colleagues learn what works and what needs to be improved. Specifically, an experienced evaluation professional, you will be working in a team that engages in high quality research and evaluation that has a real impact on the work they deliver. 
 
Main duties:
Designing and delivering evaluations of programmes to understand their effectiveness, and where things can be improved. This role will have a particular focus on evaluation of the Academic Mentoring Programme (part of the government's £350m National Tutoring Programme), which will have a strong emphasis on quantitative analysis of pupil-level data, as well as qualitative methods.
Working closely with the teams who deliver programmes to collect and analyse data for evaluations, particularly the Academic Mentoring Programme team.  
Working closely with other teams to communicate results and ensure that the learning from our evaluations is effectively shared and delivery is improved. 
Building the profile of any findings. This will involve publishing reports on the charity website and presenting findings to different teams and potentially to external audiences at conferences. 
Engaging with the wider evaluation and education sector to identify good monitoring and evaluation practice and investigate ways in which this might be used.
Designing evaluation tools that fit the needs of an evaluation and can be feasibly implemented. 
 
Experience:
In-depth knowledge and experience of evaluation techniques and research methods. 
Experience designing and implementing evaluations using quantitative and quantitative research methods.
Intermediate/ advanced quantitative research skills (logistic regression and multi-level modelling). 
Excellent skills in collecting, managing, analysing and reporting on qualitative and quantitative data and research. 
Some experience of commissioning and managing projects with external evaluators. 
Excellent project management and stakeholder management skills. 
Ability to effectively communicate complex evaluation and research findings to audiences in an understandable and usable manner.
