Harris Hill are recruiting for a Senior Finance Officer for this well-established International Development Charity based in London

  • Salary: £35,000pa
  • Location: Central London

The post holder reports to the Head of Finance and project leads in providing accurate information for senior management and key stakeholders. The role is mainly project driven but not limited to project accounting. Responsible for providing accurate project information, generating detailed financial reports and budgets, providing statutory bodies on quarterly and yearly claims, variance analysis, forecasting, strategic planning, and providing administrative support to meet the stipulations of institutional donors.

Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Budget Management

  • Preparation of annual and end of project finance and audit reports
  • Monthly and quarterly finance reports for restricted funded projects (including liaison with implementing partners as required)
  • Preparation of annual project budgets in coordination with budget holders, implementing partners and Head of Finance
  • Production of accurate project income and cash flow forecasts
  • Quarterly forecasts in cooperation with budget holders and Head of Finance
  • Tracking and day-to-day management of project budgets and finances
  • Establish, maintain and regularly review appropriate processes and systems in relation to funder requirements
  • Ensure that project grant proposals meet Full Cost Recovery requirements
  • Assist with funding proposals as required
  • Assist with the production of the Management Accounts in particular, project variance analysis
  • Assist the Head of Finance with the annual organisational audits and budgets

Operational Management of Activities

  • Responsible for administering and maintaining finance systems and accurate financial records including:
  • Check reconciliation forms and expense claims for accuracy and ensure that all the supporting documentation is filed
  • Filing of all documentation related to the projects in an accessible manner
  • Liaise with staff regarding cash requirements for overseas trips in a timely manner
  • Monitor and assist in preparation of campaign trip budgets
  • Monitor the use of funds given to staff for campaign trips by verifying trip reconciliations against the original trip budgets prepared prior to a trip
  • Salary month end journals to reflect the charges to campaigns and projects
  • Provide the monthly overhead contribution figures to be charged to campaigns/projects
  • Assist the Head of Finance with the administration and management of project and other bank accounts
  • Assist the Head of Finance with the management of foreign exchange risk on project fund accounts and activities
  • Assist with the banking of receipts, maintenance of the purchase ledger, data entry on Sage, petty cash disbursement and assist with any other duties as reasonably required

External Contacts

  • Liaise with overseas implementing partners' finance teams; auditors; European Union and Department for International Development officials
  • Respond to requests for financial information as required

Information Management and Administration

  • Maintain Finance filing systems related to projects
  • Serve as a contact point for project leaders
  • Additional administrative tasks as reasonably required

Organisational Management

  • Liaise with other Finance staff as necessary to ensure the efficient running of the department
  • Participate in the monthly Finance and Management meetings as required
  • Maintain and develop finance systems within the scope of your work to best suit the needs of the organisation
  • Play a proactive role in developing effective administration and coordination of finance related activities across the organisation
