General Manager / Director

Job description

The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary CIO is a forever home to 114 donkeys and 26 ponies, all of whom are either rescued or abandoned.

At our Sanctuary set across 55 acres of countryside in the Wroxall valley, they get first class care and welfare. Over 50 volunteers support the staff at the Sanctuary to ensure that the donkeys want for nothing .

As well as rescuing donkeys and ponies, we act as an education centre, providing learning and training for children, students, apprentices and volunteers. We are also a visitor attraction in which people can meet the donkeys, interact with them, groom and walk them, or have a half days experience with the donkeys. There are events, concerts and Open Days on a regular basis. Our donkeys take part in donkey therapy programmes across the Isle of Wight (and occasionally the mainland) and work with Alzheimer's patients, stroke patients and people with a variety of needs.

After holding the role and delivering significant growth and development since 2012, our current General Manager is now taking a well-deserved retirement. His successor will take us on to the next stage of our journey, developing our business so we will continue to be a haven to the wonderful animals we care for and a vital part of the Isle of Wight s Community long into the future.
