Head of Individual Giving

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for a temporary Head of Individual Giving for an animal related charity in order to provide leadership and strategic direction to the individual giving programme covering the acquisition, development and retention of individual supporters and legacy pledgers/enquirers and community fundraising.


Key Responsibilities will include:

Lead the development of an individual giving strategy that is capable of delivering the fundraising and marketing strategic aims and objectives.
Lead the development and implementation of multi-year plans and budgets for the four key aspects of the programme: acquisition, development and retention, legacy marketing and community fundraising.
Monitor the performance of the individual giving programme. Lead and manage the process of management/KPI reporting and budget reforecasts, reporting on a monthly and quarterly basis to the Director of Fundraising and Marketing and International Fundraising, where relevant.
Work closely with the Senior Data Analyst to develop required analysis tools to align with the UK FR Strategy; have oversight of supporter analysis and insight to drive insights and learnings to inform the individual giving programme/strategy and seek ways to integrate with other areas of fundraising.
Input and act as a key lead into planning for the wider strategic remit of the Fundraising and Marketing team.
Monitor the market for emerging opportunities for potential new marketing channels and products relevant to the individual giving programme.
Ensure the individual giving programme benefits from the knowledge and insight of charity s campaigns and programme staff and accurately reflect its work, priorities and brand, whilst engaging the emotions of the audience to solicit financial and other support.
Interpret the brand for the individual giving programme, ensuring it is executed to enhance both the programme, supporter experience and the brand and is aligned to the four programme areas.
Own and lead in all key supplier and agency partnerships, negotiating robust contracts and developing the relationships so that we become their go-to charity for any new innovations and opportunities and receive high quality of account management and support. Additionally, work closely with Procurement regarding all aspects of contract development, negotiations and regular reviews to ensure the charity achieve best value for money and monitor performance on an ongoing basis (quarterly and annually).
Provide leadership to the members of the individual giving team and line management to direct reports. Nurture staff and set development plans to build skills and career development opportunities, where appropriate within the charity.
Have responsibility and oversight to deliver the annual fundraising budgets and targets of the Individual Giving programme (income, expenditure, net income and supporter KPIs) and seek remedial measures to counteract any income shortfall or implement additional opportunities.



In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:

Considerable relevant experience in a business-to-consumer marketing function, ideally within the not-for-profit sector.
Considerable experience of leading an individual giving programme, to include, ideally all four: acquisition, development and retention, legacy marketing or community fundraising.
Experience in leading integrated marketing initiatives, whether on organisational integrated activity or across multiple channels, to include digital channels, DRTV and direct mail.
Considerable experience in developing and managing complex budgets of at 1.6m spend and 5m income.
Line management experience, ideally including experience of managing, nurturing and developing managers.
Considerable experience in developing strategic or significant operational fundraising or marketing plans.
Experience of hiring suppliers and of managing a procurement process and of negotiating contracts and costs and building up supplier partnerships and reviewing ongoing performance.
A strategic thinker, able to deliver effective marketing strategy and tactics.
Experience in interpreting analysis and insight, researching audience and approach to segmentation as well as working on complex supporter forecast / LTV models.
Experience of leading in innovation projects, building fundraising product portfolio.
A self-starter, able to identify, research and build.
