Head of Operations

Job description

An established refugees and migrants' organisations providing services in London particularly focusing in south and southeast London boroughs are looking for a Head of Operations. This position sits within the Senior Management Team and has line management responsibility for the charity's advice and support services. The successful candidate will need to provide operational and organisational leadership as a key member of the senior management team, implement the necessary changes required to meet the needs of the charity moving forward. You will deputise for the CEO and support her in setting the strategic direction of the charity to create a sustainable future.


** It is important that the candidate has experience of Advice Quality Standards or other relevant quality systems in the non-for-profit sector.**

Key responsibilities
Line management responsibility for Housing and Welfare, Immigration, Women's Project and Community Well-being and Engagement and Office, Volunteer and Service Managers.
Coordinate the recruitment, onboarding and induction of volunteers
Support managers to identify and develop creative and innovative programmes and service delivery solutions
Update volunteer policies, forms and processes when appropriate

Ensure managers provide regular supervisions and support to their volunteers.

Ensure accurate and up to date volunteer records, including reports on volunteer activity and participation are maintained.

Implement a sustainable structure of volunteer engagement

Ensure volunteers are provided appropriate training and development to fulfil their roles effectively.

Responsible for implementing the charity's Monitoring and Evaluation Plan

Be the lead responsible officer for Health & Safety and Safeguarding issues

Ensure the CEO and the Board have sufficient oversight of safeguarding issues.

Be the lead responsible for GDPR and data security 

Provide people management support to managers and help in the development and performance of their team and members

Develop and run training and development programme for service users for their continued engagement and development.

Ensure quantitative and qualitative data are collected using Advicepro and other methods including case studies, survey, 1:1 interviews and more for project reporting.

Be the lead responsible officer for Health & Safety and Safeguarding issues

Ensure the CEO and the Board have sufficient oversight of safeguarding issues.


Person specification
Significant people management experience
Strong analytical skills
Experience of driving operational excellence: decisive about business activities that will deliver benefits, initiating action and managing resources.
Good knowledge and previous experience of people management working with staff and volunteers ,
Good knowledge and experience of GDPR compliance
Experience of working as part of senior management team and of interacting with Board of Directors
Experience of Advice Quality Standards or other relevant quality systems
Experience of project planning and delivery, including monitoring and evaluation, and working to targets
Experience of engaging services users in design, development of services and other methods of involving service users
Experience of managing teams who work remotely
