HR Officer

Job description

A charity based in Central London are looking for a HR officer. The successful candidate will need to administer and be the first point of contact for all HR processes in the business, supporting the HR & Administration Manager, senior team and line managers with HR casework, recruitment, on boarding, probation, training, performance management, leave and absence management, record keeping, staff surveys, payroll information, ER casework and HR system management.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensuring all managers and teams follow recruitment procedures for all roles, including casual and freelance
  • Agreeing and finalising job descriptions
  • Agreeing and finalising timetable, shortlisting and interview panels, assessment components
  • Posting roles on recruitment portals, job boards and ensuring they are uploaded onto our own website
  • Monitoring application levels and responding to queries
  • Organising interviews
  • Taking references
  • Issuing the offer letter and contract of employment
  • Confirming payroll information to Finance
  • Providing first point of contact for candidates and recruiting managers
  • Updating the staffing structure diagram
  • Monitoring progress of new staff through the probation period, liaising with managers where necessary to ensure review meetings are carried out and appropriate actions taken during the probationary period
  • Producing end of probation confirmation letters and administer any leaver process
  • Producing standard offer letters and employment contracts
  • Supporting and advising staff on maternity, paternity leave and parental leave
  • Organising agreed training, including onsite provision and external provider liaison



Person specification

  • Level 5 CIPD qualification (or working towards)
  • Demonstrably strong and proactive HR administration and coordination skills with a good understanding of HR and payroll processes and basic employment legislation
  • Highly effective communication skills, including approachability and the ability to liaise confidently and professionally with staff, senior management and external stakeholders
  • A strong track record in providing HR administration support, including implementation of HR protocols and processes, dealing with confidential and sensitive information with discretion and tact
  • Fluency and confidence using People HR or equivalent online HR system, and an ability to pick up new systems and processes quickly
