Humanitarian Programme Manager

Job description

An international charity are looking for a Humanitarian Manager to respond to large and medium scale humanitarian crises by initiating, leading and supporting a humanitarian response.

You will develop the protection and inclusion capacity of the global humanitarian team through training, coaching, mentoring and project design.

You'll also support and manage the emergency response programme to humanitarian crises by the charity and its partners and provide technical support for protection programming and support the maintenance of emergency preparedness in Country offices and humanitarian partners.

Key Responsibilities:
-To respond to emergencies during first and second phases in roles ranging from team leader, deputy team leader, protection advisor, or provide direct support to teams and network members
-With other members of the Humanitarian Team, initiate and manage emergency operations when there is no existing presence or capacity, including immediate response to rapid onset emergencies
-Advise and support regional and country offices and partners on
strategies and activities for protection and inclusion including identifying vulnerable older people for assistance, needs assessment, programme design and monitoring
-Build capacity amongst staff and partners in the design and implementation of emergency programmes
-Support country offices to maintain a consistent level of emergency preparedness
and maintain an appropriate level of hazard monitoring
-Support engagement with humanitarian donors and development of high quality proposals
-Contribute to the development and monitoring of strategic and annual plans
-Develop and deliver a training-of-trainers module to strengthen the capacity of teams to deliver humanitarian response and protection/inclusion programming
-Build capacity amongst staff and partners in the design and implementation of humanitarian response programmes
-Work with country teams to develop indicators, monitoring plans and evaluations for humanitarian response and protection programmes
-Support learning and evidence gathering in emergency protection programmes


Skills and Experience required:
Post Graduate degree in either International Relations, International
Law, Human Rights, Social Studies and Development Studies;
-Experience of initiating and leading a rapid and effective humanitarian response in several recent major disasters;
- Proven experience developing and implementing protection and inclusion
programmes in humanitarian contexts, including conflicts and natural disasters
-Proven experience in case management, including training others on case management;
-Proven experience developing and implementing community based protection interventions;
Strong programme management and leadership skills
-Experience of emergency preparedness and a clear understanding of the emergency preparedness process
-Experience working in networks and consortiums particularly with smaller local
networks and organisations
-Experienced in building team and partner capacity including providing training
-Documented experience in preparing successful funding proposals
-Experience of the humanitarian coordination system, humanitarian standards and principles, and humanitarian accountability initiatives.
-Ability to be flexible, in adjusting work plans and priorities rapidly in response to external opportunities
-Able and willing to travel, sometimes at short notice, and to live in difficult environments and living conditions when necessary
