Interim Director of Communications and Marketing

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for an Interim Director of Communications and Marketing for a national charity in order to cover period of approximately 6 months. Director of Communications and Marketing will play a key role in the start of this process of change by providing strategic leadership to the function. They will oversee the initial recruitment of new posts and ensure that the team is able to deliver to its objectives during the current year, taking overall responsibility for all marketing and communication activity. They will participate fully in the leadership of the charity as a member of the Leadership Team and will also work closely with colleagues from operational teams, strategy and policy and the Development department.


Key Responsibilities will include:
Provide a clear and inspiring vision and direction for communications and marketing.
Provide senior level, expert and influential marketing, communication and public relations advice.
Build a communications and marketing team that is central to the organisation and its strategy.
Contribute to strategic leadership within the Development directorate and build relationships across the organisation to deliver results in collaboration with colleagues.
As a senior leader within the Development Directorate work with the Executive Director of Development to deliver the new Growth strategy and ensure that communications strategy aligns with its vision.
Take responsibility for the delivery of high quality, comprehensive and communications and marketing activities that are relevant to our audiences and our strategy.
Ensure activity continues to support the objectives of our existing communications strategy and integrates learning from our recent review of the team and its recommendations for next steps.
Begin the process of implementing the recommendations from the recent review into our communications and marketing team including overseeing the recruitment of new staff.
Promote and enhance the charity external reputation overseeing the management of PR, media relations, effective brand management and media presence.
Lead the development and implementation of the charity content and digital channel strategies, ensuring the delivery and on-going development of our digital presence across current and emerging channels.

In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:
Demonstrable experience of successfully leading a communications and marketing function and doing so in a medium/large sized organisation.
Demonstrable experience of building and motivating engaged and high performing teams.
Experience of developing and implementing communications and marketing plans and strategies.
Proven experience of financial management, including being accountable for budgets of 500k+.
Experience of operating and advising in a highly effective way at a senior operational level.
A skilled communicator, able to explain our work, influence and build support in multiple environments.
Highly effective leadership and change management skills including excellent organisational problem solving and planning skills.
