Harris Hill is recruiting for a Part Time International Finance Officer for this Human Rights Charity based in London (Mostly Home working, with occasional meetings in London)

POSITION: Part Time International Finance Officer

POSITION SCOPE: 2 or 3 days a week (with potential to go 4 or 5 days a week if required later on in the year)

LOCATION: Mostly home based, with the occasional meeting at their offices in London

SALARY RANGE: up to £35,000pa (pro rata)

DURATION: Fixed Term contract until September 2024 with the potential to become permanent.

REPORTS TO: Head of Finance & Compliance

Job Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with a passion for the international human rights sector to join our team during a period of exponential growth for the organisation. The International Finance Officer plays a key role in the day-to-day running of the projects, with the responsibility to undertake detailed financial analysis of projects, monitoring budgets against project progress and expenditure. The International Finance Officer reports to Head of Finance & Compliance to provide an effective financial accounting and reporting service to the projects and contribute to donor financial compliance and reporting.

Job description:

  • Process all project financial transactions and ensuring the timely and accurate analysis of project income and expenditure and preparation of financial reporting to donors.
  • Process monthly transfer requests from project offices as per agreed procedures.
  • Manage and reconcile the bank, credit card accounts, and key balance sheet control accounts.
  • Ensure timely submission of monthly forecasts and expenditure reports from project offices, staff, and consultants; and scrutinise the same.
  • Provide day-to-day support to field staff to enable the effective use of financial systems.
  • Assist the Head of Finance & Compliance in the production of internal financial and management reports (cash-flow forecast; monthly management accounts; project-specific income/expenditure reports) for the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees with supporting narrative.
  • Support the Head of Finance and Compliance to improve drive the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial systems and processes, ensuring procedures, templates, reports and guidance are fit for purpose.
  • Provide financial support to the Head of Development through the production of fundraising budgets and financial information for donors on both existing and new fundraising initiatives.
  • Ensuring that all projects and departments meet financial donor reporting requirements and, if necessary, lead on the audit of restricted grants.
  • Undertake additional tasks commensurate with the role which may reasonably be required to meet the organisation’s needs and as agreed with the Head of Finance & Compliance.

Person Specification:

  • Part qualified accountant with a recognised professional qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA or CIMA or qualified by demonstrable technical experience.
  • At least 3 years of work in a relevant field (experience in the charitable sector and/or with detailed government-funded projects is desirable).
  • Strong working experience of Quickbooks/Sage 200 or equivalent finance software for transactions recording and reporting.
    • Intermediate/advanced level of Excel skills (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS functions, etc.)
