Media and Communications Manager

A lovely health based charity, situated in the Bath area, seek an interim Media and Communications Manager for around 3 month with possible temp to perm recruitment.

We are looking for an experienced candidate, ideally from a charity or not for profit background to join them ASAP and lead the public relations and communications work.

The client would ideally like someone local to the area. Whilst the temp role could be done totally remote, anyone being considered for the perm role would need to be able to attend the office at least once per week, when lockdown permits.

Responsibilities will include:
Managing all public relations work and communications activity for the charity
Developing and overseeing our communications library including messaging, case studies and other assets
Responding effectively to incoming media enquiries from journalists and other partners
Successfully drafting and pitching news, opinion and feature pieces to deliver regular national coverage
Reporting on media coverage and trends
Coordinating media training for spokespeople
Devising, delivering and evaluating integrated communications campaigns
Developing content for a range of print and digital channels
Overseeing delivery of the charity's owned publications, including our members' magazines
Supporting colleagues across the organisation with their communications requirements


Experience
Working in either a national charity press office or commercial/ PR agency or in-house media or public relations
Professional qualifications in PR, degree level or equivalent experience
Proven experience of selling in stories to the media and relationship building with journalists
News-sense, tenacity and a hunger for generating coverage and cut-through around stories
Proven track record in gaining significant media coverage through innovative commentary/narrative building
End to end communications project management, developing and implementing integrated communications plans across multi-channels, including marketing, specialist, and national press & PR
Stakeholder management having built credible relationships within a high-profile partnership, with awareness of associated complexities
Experience of evaluating reputational risk and managing crisis communications
Very strong media and communications skills, with ability to undertake broadcast interviews, and experience as charity or company spokesperson at senior level
Excellent written and oral communications skills including the writing of press releases, press briefings, articles and reports, and demonstrated successful media sell-in skills
Excellent communications project management skills, with the ability to coordinate and manage others in the development and delivery of projects or media campaigns
Superb interpersonal negotiation and diplomatic skills, especially in dealing with journalists and the media, and for networking with press offices on joint campaigns and projects
Excellent knowledge of the UK media landscape and understanding of current trends in media
Good working knowledge of MS Office including Teams (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Demonstrable negotiation and advocacy skills, with tact and diplomacy
An understanding of the role news management, media relations and PR campaign purposes
