PR and Media Manager
Job description
Harris Hill is working with a high profile health based charity, supporting their search for an interim PR and Media Manager for 7 months, on a full time, hybrid basis.
We are looking for an experienced PR and Media Manager who has a Policy/ Public Affairs background. Below is a list of main responsibilities you will need to show experience in to be considered.
Main Duties
Gain a high standard of proactive and reactive media coverage to support the charity’s public campaigning activities, key policy themes and activities.. This includes writing media materials and liaising with media, and supporting other colleagues to do so if delegating.
Identify strong hooks for news, opinion and features in broadcast, print and online media.
Play a lead role in the PR Team’s daily ‘Newsdesk’ – responding to the news agenda and opportunities to provide expert commentary, ensuring the best tactic to achieve media coverage is used.
Be a positive role model supporting and coaching more junior colleagues with Newsdesk activities.
Work collaboratively with other channel owners in Communications and Marketing to ensure external communications are aligned.
Lead on General Election media strategy and planning, in collaboration with core working group.
Manage a forward plan of Policy, Public Affairs, Campaigning and Research work for the Communications and Marketing Department.
Advise colleagues on the sequencing of stories, ensuring they fit in with other activities, and playing an active role in keeping the Communications Planner up to date.
Advise colleagues on what Policy, Public Affairs, Campaigning and Research work has the most PR & media potential, and prioritising this.
Keep abreast of developing issues in our interest areas that could present an opportunity to promote our spokespeople, campaigning or policy work.
Review Research and Policy Reports and academic research papers to identify story hooks.
Develop strong relationships with target media, maintaining an expert knowledge of their interests and using this to - identify opportunities.
Support a range of spokespeople to respond to identified media opportunities, including advising and supporting interviews, briefings and written submissions.
Identify and move quickly to capitalise on any reactive opportunities.
Represent the PR Team at meetings with external agencies and other bodies as required, linking with close partner organisations to coordinate media work.
Support on call rota.
