Press and PR Consultant

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for a Press and PR Consultant for a children related charity in order to work with fundraising and advocacy colleagues to provide considered and strategic public relations advice and expertise across a range of exciting national and international key moments. This will be a temporary contract for approximately 1 month.

Key Responsibilities will include:

Secure accurate and positive coverage of the charity s work, advocacy priorities and fundraising activities
Work with fundraising teams to provide guidance on news angles and outlets that are suitable to promote fundraising activities to target audiences
Work with advocacy and programmes teams to identify media opportunities to further advocacy goals develop strategic media plans and create media materials as needed
Work with in-house press teams at corporate partners to ensure that the charity is accurately portrayed and that the cause is clear
Develop key messaging documents, Q&As and media briefings for media spokespeople
Monitor the news agenda; log and share relevant coverage internally
Monitor the press inbox and phone; responding to enquiries in a timely manner
Ensure that any use of children s stories in the media adheres to the charity s strict child
safeguarding policy

In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:

Experienced in delivering effective press & PR strategies to drive income growth and influence policy change.
Results-focused and able to set and reach targets and KPIs
Excellent writer with experience writing press releases, op-eds and media plans
Strong interpersonal skills ability to build internal and external relationships quickly and generate trust, including the ability to give and receive feedback constructively
A clear communicator who is confident presenting ideas externally to high-level and high- profile individuals, as well as internally in senior level meetings with high-level stakeholders
Experienced in creating content for and pitching to journalists and editors, and closely following the news agenda
Connected with good media contacts, and ideally knowledgeable about the media landscape for international development with experience using media tools e.g. gorkana, mediapoint, cision etc.
Able to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and requests and respond flexibly as urgency requires
A strong track record of building empowered and high-functioning teams, as well as managing budgets efficiently and effectively.
