Principal Officer

Job description

Trustees of Central England Quaker Area Meeting are seeking a Principal Officer to manage the work of the charity; implementing the strategy and decisions of the trustees and to provide support and inspiration to Quakers in the various Area Meeting (AM) voluntary appointments and staff.

We are looking for someone with senior management team level experience with wide-ranging responsibility at an organisation of comparable scale and complexity. There are 14 active local Quaker meeting communities and 2 AM projects with an annual turnover of 1 million and assets of 9 million. The assets are primarily in investments and property.

The charity is faith based and members share a way of life rather than a set of beliefs. We seek to experience God directly, within ourselves and in our relationships with others and the world around us. This leads Quakers to take action in both their local neighbourhood and globally to create a more just world, seeking social, economic and climate justice. Members are also responsible for managing the charity. The trustees work with other members of the AM to manage the finances, property, employment and ensure compliance with the relevant regulations. We need a principal officer to help with these tasks and to provide guidance in developing our structures and roles over the next decade.

We are looking for someone who is in sympathy with our values and approach, who has the enthusiasm to run with the challenge of creating a new post with flair and imagination. We encourage applicants who are seeking the challenge of creating a new role, especially those in underrepresented groups, as we value having a diverse pool of applicants to find the best candidate.
