Senior Digital Community Officer

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for a temporary Senior Digital Community Officer for health related charity in order to support the delivery, management and promotion of charity s online community - increasing reach, participation, and engagement to achieve objectives and targets.

This role will be 3 or 5 days a week and could be home based!

Key Responsibilities will include:

Moderate, facilitate and engage in conversation on the online community to encourage participation.
Source and manage volunteers including our community champions and advisors ensuring they feel a valued part of the team. Arrange meet-ups with the champions and advisors to keep them engaged with the charity.
Curate content on the community and for a variety of channels, such as social media and blogs. Create regular blog column content from community members.
Identify issues on the community and work with colleagues to resolve these e.g. safeguarding issues, complaints or customer service queries.
Ensure community activity is optimised for search engines where relevant.
Lead on the advertising of the community - working with the marketing team to create marketing materials and make sure that campaigns are run effectively and within budget.
Identify opportunities for the charity in online conversations, trends, events and news stories. Use these opportunities to meet the organisation s objectives.
Promote the community across charity s internal online and offline channels.
Create regular community emails (currently fortnightly) to promote and re-engage people in the community. Take responsibility for the email welcome journey for new users.
Conduct regular outreach to get the online community featured on a wide range of media platforms.
Run initiatives (such as competitions and incentives) to encourage sign-ups and engagements on the online community.
Support with the running of offline and virtual events to engage with community members and promote the community to new audiences.
Support the development of the community by reporting bugs, and by helping to specify and test new features.

In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:

Essential:

Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Evidence of excellent IT skills.
Shows the ability to be flexible, respond positively to change, and work effectively under pressure and deal with conflicting priorities.
Demonstrates a facilitative style, able to broker internal and external relationships to ensure effective business solutions and resolve conflict where necessary.
Professional qualification or proven experience in relevant field.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.
Demonstrable passion for online communities and of broader digital and marketing tools and techniques.
Experience of managing online communities building relationships and facilitating conversation and growth.
Experience in the use of digital channels to meet specific communications and marketing objectives and targets.
Experience of using analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to record, interpret and improve performance on online communities.
Experience spotting opportunities to facilitate conversations across social media and online communities.
Experience of leading content marketing and outreach campaigns and activities.

Desirable:

Demonstrates awareness, diplomacy, sensitivity and empathy with the issues of disability.
Experience of running offline and virtual events.
Experience of working with digital and technical agencies to create, improve and test a website.
Experience of writing email copy and using email marketing software (Mailchimp).
Experience of working with data to agreed standards and best practice.
Knowledge of digital legal compliance, accessibility and usability standards.
Knowledge of digital advertising such as Google Adwords and Facebook Ads.
Proven track record of supporting an effective team of volunteer contributors, driving performance and motivation.
