Senior Media Officer

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for a temporary Senior Media Officer for a national charity based in London in order to play a key role in the charity press office over Christmas to support their flagship fundraising appeal, and to support a major newspaper partnership appeal over the season. You will lead on several proactive stories, share in reactive work, and support the evaluation of the campaign. This will be a 10 weeks contract to cover busy period. The deadline for this role is Friday 9th November at 9am.

Key Responsibilities will include:

Generate coverage of charity s key campaigns and fundraising initiatives, ensuring messages reach target audiences in key media outlets
Working with the rest of the media team to build strong relationships with key national journalists and cover press duties
Provide support and advice to a network of local campaigners across the country in generating coverage of their issues in the local media
Create briefs and concepts for photography, audio and film shoots featuring Crisis clients, volunteers and supporters. Set up PR stunts, photo calls and direct film and photography crews
Keep abreast of communications developments at related organisations


In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:
Significant experience of working with a busy charity press office at a senior level
Experience of working on high profile charity fundraising campaigns that have helped achieve organizational objectives, high volumes of coverage across national and regional news outlets, and targeted consumer features
Experience of managing and maintaining good relationships with senior internal stakeholders as well as senior journalists and editors
Ability to juggle a multitude of proactive and reactive work, remaining calm under pressure, with the ability to prioritise and plan time effectively
Ability to work independently and take initiative when managerial support is limited
A solid understanding of the digital landscape and social media with experience of amplifying coverage and campaign messages creatively in the digital sphere
7A solid track record of translating complex policy and research into compelling news and PR coverage
A solid understanding of the PR and consumer landscape with an ability to achieve quality consumer coverage in a range of outlets across print, digital, and broadcast including women s magazines, supplements, programmes like Lorraine and The One Show, etc.
A proactive, positive, collaborative, and solutions-focussed attitude
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to produce polished press materials that require minimal editing
Experience in telling the stories of people who are, or have been, in vulnerable situations, sensitively and with the utmost respect for their safety and wellbeing
