Senior Press Officer

A great opportunity has arisen for an Interim Senior Press Officer for a University in order to support the Press and Media team in raising the profile of the University amongst key audiences, whilst enhancing and protecting the institution s reputation.
This will be an ongoing contract.

Key Responsibilities will include:

Act as the senior press officer for the University ensuring all media enquiries are dealt with effectively and in a timely manner, coordinating workflow and deadlines
Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues across the University to support an effective PR and communications service
Commission, edit, write and proofread content for the University communications channels and materials ensuring content accuracy and following house style / tone of voice
Provide day to day line management for the press team (x2 officers) in the absence of the Senior Manager for Press and Media
Build effective relationships with external organisations, co-ordinating and/or supporting relevant activities that engage the University s local communities
Deliver proactive PR campaigns for specific schools, teams and projects
Create reputational content for digital channels, including web and social media
Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of Press and Media activity
Build effective relationships for the University with journalists and publications


In order to apply you should have the following skills and experience:

Proven experience of writing for a range of audiences and channels, ideally within the higher education sector.
Experience of creating or repurposing content for digital channels.
Proven experience of media relations within a busy press office environment and having secured positive media coverage
Awareness of key media issues within the higher education sector.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritise, organise, meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of accuracy, work under pressure and schedule activities in order to meet strict deadlines.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of equality and diversity, and its practical application.
