Chair of Governors

Job description

Are you passionate about education? Would you welcome the opportunity to become the next Chair of Governors of a secondary school, at the centre of one of the greatest knowledge clusters anywhere in the world?

If you would, Regent High School would like to hear from you.

Regent High School is a state-maintained, 11-19 co-educational comprehensive school close to King’s Cross in the London Borough of Camden.

We serve an incredibly diverse community, which is represented in the demographics of our student body.  Students and their parents/carers are highly aspirational, and as a school we work with an extensive range of partner organisations to provide enhanced opportunities for our students, staff and the wider community.

We are a nationally recognised award-winning school.  We opened our new £26m building in 2015. We have over 1000 students on roll, including c.120 in the Sixth Form. We were judged by Ofsted to be ‘Good’ when they last visited in January 2018 and our Headteacher who joined the school in 2016, is working to ensure the school builds on its recent successes.

We also benefit from a team of dedicated and experienced governors, including parent and staff governors, representatives from our partner organisations and members of the local community.

Chair, Regent High School, King’s Cross

Following the recent announcement that our current Chair of Governors, the Chief Executive of The Anne Frank Trust is standing down after serving five years on the Governing Body, we seek to appoint another highly successful and innovative leader, with knowledge and a keen interest in education, learning and empowerment to become our next Chair.

You will be tasked with chairing our half termly meetings of the Full Governing Body, and any necessary ad-hoc sub-group meetings.  You will meet regularly with the Headteacher for 1:1 meetings. You will lead the Headteacher’s appraisal meetings and you will attend Camden Learning’s Secondary Chairs’ Network meeting, and the Chairs and Governors’ Forum meeting on behalf of the Governing Body.  You will also be required to attend school events and champion the school and its causes at external events.

You will be responsible for leading a highly effective, supportive and knowledgeable team of governors.  You will be expected to offer induction support and establish an ongoing programme of learning and development to help all governors maximise their effectiveness, and ensure governors are able to benefit from the specialist training programmes offered.  You will work proactively to ensure that the governing body is adequately skilled and sufficiently well informed to fulfil its role to challenge and support the school leadership to achieve the best outcomes for all our students.

This is a hugely exciting time to be a part of Regent High School, leading and developing our Governing Body and supporting the senior leadership of the school in achieving our key strategic priorities.

Closing date: Monday 2 March

Preliminary Interviews: Thursday 12 March

Final Panel Interviews: Wednesday 25 or Thursday 26 March
