Chief Executive Officer Aspens
Salary: circa 90,000
Location: Battle (East Sussex) and Tunbridge Wells (Kent)
Contract: Permanent, full time

Visionary, inspiring, resilient and experienced top-level leader sought to forge a newly-formed charity providing best-practice services to people with autism and learning disabilities in South East England.

Aspens was formed, following the merger of Autism Sussex and Pepenbury. It is united in offering over 100 years of experience and expertise in Kent, East Sussex, Brighton & Hove, West Sussex and London Borough of Bexley.
Approximately 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability, and more than 700,000 have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum condition.

With increasing regulation and costs, the pressure on providers is immense. We exist to make sure the services that people require are there when needed. Aspens offers a wide range of services, delivering lifelong support to families across the South East.

Our highly skilled staff provide a personalised service focused on individual needs and offer support and advice to empower families, carers and other professionals to confidently look after those who benefit from our services. We have 94 residents, plus those supported by day services. Services are delivered by approximately 500 staff.

Our next CEO will shape the realities of the merger on the ground, both strategic and operational, and will ensure we have the cohesive systems, policies, procedures, impact assessment and performance management tools for success.

We face a tough funding environment, and to tackle this our commercially-minded CEO will lead our review of options on the future of the business and how we deliver care services to secure our long term sustainability. They will have the scope to drive real innovation in this area.
It's an exciting but challenging role suited to an experienced leader, who will be supported during this crucial transitional phase by a committed Board of Trustees.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in a senior management or organisational leadership role.
  • The ability to form and champion an organisation's strategic vision.
  • The ability to horizon scan, spot challenges and opportunities, and advise the Board accordingly.
  • A track record of leading successful turnarounds, with strong change management skills.
  • The ability to motivate staff and volunteers through personal drive and energy.
