Deputy Head of Development (Engagement)

Job description

A school of the arts is seeking a Deputy Head of Development (Engagement) for 5 months, starting ASAP.

We are looking for an experienced, confident and creative Deputy Head of Development (Engagement) to lead on engagement activity for a range of internal and external stakeholders, including alumni, donors and honorary fellows. The postholder will ensure that the School's engagement activity complements and enhances their extensive public performance programme and fundraising activity, and seeks to build sustained and effective relationships. This is an exciting time to be part of the development team, leading a newly-established engagement function and implementing a recently-launched strategy.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience of managing posts within a busy development office, of collaborating extensively across an institution and of measuring and demonstrating the impact of engagement activity. Candidates will also have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, experience of events and volunteer management as well as the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Engagement Strategy
1. To develop, implement and manage an institutional strategy for external engagement and stewardship activity primarily alumni and supporter relations with clear objectives, programme outlines and mechanisms for evaluation
2. To build meaningful and productive relationships with external constituents of the School to foster a strong community of key external stakeholders, in the UK and internationally, and to engage them more closely in the life of the institution
3. To work closely with the Head of Development, the Deputy Head of Development (Major Gifts) and the External Relations Data Manager to ensure that the School's external engagement activity fully supports and is integrated with its fundraising activity
4. To work closely with the Head of Development in order to promote institutional awareness of philanthropy, supporter and alumni engagement

Essential experience.
Demonstrable experience of working within engagement, alumni relations or a similar professional network-based environment
Experience of developing and supporting fundraising programmes and working closely with senior volunteers, senior staff and committees
Proven project management and event management experience (including organising and delivering a wide range of fundraising and engagement events)
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and confidence in dealing with people at all levels.
Exceptional attention to detail, and administrative management, including budgetary management
Highly flexible and organised with the ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and
