Director of Education, Learning & Development

Job description

Organisation: LOROS
Title: Director of Education, Learning and Development
Salary: 55,000 - 60,000
Location: Leicester

LOROS Hospice is a local charity and every year we care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We believe that everyone with an incurable illness has the right to excellent care. This should value and respect their uniqueness and their own choices. People should be enabled to live and die with dignity and with appropriate and compassionate support for themselves and their loved ones.

To support this vision, LOROS provides free, high quality compassionate care and support to adults and their families at what can be a very difficult and emotional time. We aim to enhance the quality of life of adult patients with cancer, progressive neurological conditions and end-stage organ failure for whom curative treatment is no longer possible. Patients are treated at the Hospice and in the community based upon clinical need, regardless of background and the ability to pay.

LOROS specialises in holistic, multidisciplinary care, focused on the whole person and including family and carers. The care given takes into account the patients' physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs as well as their own choices. Family members are supported in adjusting to loss and bereavement.

Such services are only possible because of the skills, dedication and ongoing training of our staff team and the army of volunteers all of whom focus upon providing the highest quality of care each and every day.

The Director of Education, Learning and Development role is central to the planning and implementation of staff development, to the support and training of volunteers and to providing an oversight of the all-important human resources function. They will not only lead the Education department and the LOROS Professional Development Centre (a state of the art 3 million stand-alone education and research facility opened in 2017) but will be a core member of the Senior Management Team at this large and successful hospice.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of development, delivery and evaluation of education and training across a medium to large organisation.
  • Experience of working at a strategic level.
  • Experience of developing effective strategic working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stake holders.
  • Experience of project management, including staff and budgets.
  • An understanding of palliative and end of life care services.
  • Up to date registration as a health or social care professional (highly desirable)
