Director of Research

Job description

Would you like to help shape our research strategy and help us become the funder we want to be?

Macular disease is the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK, with around 300 people diagnosed every day. The Macular Society is the only charity determined to beat the fear and isolation of macular disease with world class research and the best advice and support.

If we are to Beat Macular Disease we need a lot more money, and over the last three years we have transformed our culture and processes to enable us to increase income.

We currently fund £1.5m each year, and with our increased income plans, we aim to invest significantly more. With these ambitious funding plans we will "make it happen" in a big way - fostering innovation in an underfunded area of research and developing research roadmaps that truly meet the needs of people with macular disease.

We are not alone in this journey, this role will partner closely with AAAMD, an important collaboration of leading sight loss charities identifying new interventions to stop the progression of early AMD.

We are looking for an accomplished leader in the field. Someone who will relish the opportunity to play such a significant role in transforming how we invest in research to find new treatments and cures, and improve quality of life.

This role can truly make a difference.
