General Manager

Job description

We are delighted to be working with the Scoliosis Association UK (SAUK) and the British Scoliosis Research Foundation (BSRF) to help them find a new General Manager to ensure the effective management of both of these charities.

About SAUK and BSRF
SAUK is the only UK wide patient support organisation for people with scoliosis and their families. They provide advice, support, and information to people affected by scoliosis and their families and raise awareness of scoliosis among health professionals and the general public.
BSRF is the only charity that exists solely to promote research into the treatment of scoliosis in the UK. They fund research into scoliosis and periodically hold an international symposium to spread the knowledge gained from research.
The BSRF works closely with the Scoliosis Association (UK), the national patient's support organisation


Key Responsibilities:
-To ensure the effective management of both SAUK and BSRF
-To manage the day to day running of the office and ensure the smooth running of administrative systems
-To produce a budget and monitor the accounts in accordance to this
-To ensure the organisation maintains a positive profile within the research and medical professional communities
-To ensure the helpline service is responsive to and meets the needs of all people with scoliosis, professionals involved in the treatment of scoliosis and people interested in scoliosis research
-To manage and support the staff and Regional Representatives to ensure that services provided and tasks completed are of a high standard
-To be responsible for all work completed by the organisations' staff
-To support, induct, supervise and carry out annual appraisals of staff
-To ensure volunteers are supported, supervised, trained and are fully aware of their role
-To attend the SAUK Trustee and BSRF Council meetings, representing the team and ensuring a good flow of information to and from the team
-To work closely with the Line Managers and Trustees/Council members of SAUK and BSRF to ensure the effective development of the two charities
-To take part in the strategic planning of SAUK and BSRF objectives and take the lead role in implementing any changes
-To be responsible for ensuring adequate funds are available for the two charities to fulfil their set objectives; including applying for funding and managing the fundraising arm of the 2 charities
-Answer Helpline calls when other members of staff are unavailable

Skills and Experience required:
-Proven track record of leadership at a senior level
-Proven track record of leadership at a senior level Leadership experience at a senior level in a not-for-profit organisation, including working at Board level
-Experience of developing and working collaboratively in partnership with a wide range of individuals and organisations and building networks
-Proven track record of developing and delivering strategic and/or business plans
-Good understanding of effective charity governance.
-Knowledge of appropriate legislation and compliance requirements relating to charities and/or small businesses
-Experience of setting and managing budgets and monitoring financial performance numeracy and analytical skills
