Governance Officer

Job description

A Social Welfare charity based in Leicester are looking for a Governance Officer. The role will sit in the Governance and Risk Team and will be specifically responsible for providing a comprehensive secretariat service to the Council, allocated committees and subsidiaries. The successful candidate will organise and co-ordinate Council, committee and subsidiary board meetings, including preparing board agendas, ensuring papers are prepared and distributed in a timely manner and minuting meetings.
Key responsibilities
Plan and organise Council, committee and subsidiary board meetings, including catering and travel / accommodation arrangements.
Prepare Council, committee and subsidiary board agendas and papers and ensure they are distributed in a timely manner.
Attend meetings and act as the minuting secretary to the Council, Council committees and subsidiaries.
Act as the principle point of contact for Trustees, committee members and subsidiary board members including managing expense claims, declarations of interest and other governance requirements.
Co-ordinate and manage the Council election process on a three yearly basis and manage appointment formalities.
Oversee and coordinate the trustee induction and ongoing training programme.
Maintain Board and committee records, including papers, minutes and other documents
Provide governance support to the Association and its subsidiaries including the development of new policies and procedures.
Identify trustee training needs and manage their programme of training.
Person Specification
Previous governance experience gained in the third or public sector - housing association experience would be particularly helpful.
Comprehensive understanding of the governance of charity structures, including the roles of trustees.
Understanding and application of the Regulatory Standards applying to registered providers (social housing)
Experience of minute taking and servicing formal meetings eg Board and committee meetings
Excellent administrative abilities, high attention to detail, with high levels of literacy and IT skills
