Grants Manager

Job description

An International Human Rights Foundation are looking to recruit a Grants Manager.

We are looking for a highly organised individual to manage the data strategy and grant award process for Bertha Foundation; from leading the organisation's work on data monitoring and capture strategy, implementation of new Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) systems and supporting the team to embed data in their program work; as well as planning, organising and preparing documentation for quarterly Board Meetings and various internal Funds, and administering and tracking approved grants.

The role requires a person skilled at communicating data for the organization and other key stakeholders, entrepreneurial leadership skills, excellent record keeping, financial and accounting skills, keen proofreading abilities and enthusiasm for working in diverse multicultural teams. We work with global grantees tackling diverse social justice challenges. The ability to work well under pressure while maintaining culturally sensitive and open communications is a must.

As a Grants Manager you will be experienced with Salesforce and be confident and enthusiastic in using it creatively for data analysis and insight generation. The central feature of your role will be to increase engagement for Bertha staff, stakeholders and grantees with all data, both to generate insights about our grantee network and support program evaluation and learning processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with CEO to set strategic direction for monitoring and communication about data at Bertha Foundation
  • Work with programme directors to set monitoring goals for their areas and implement plans, acting as both an advisor to the work and an implementer where needed
  • Manage portfolio budget tracking on Salesforce, providing regular reporting and communication to program directors and the CEO
  • Create dynamic visual presentations utilizing data analytics to showcase impact, particularly of bespoke programs and to improve learning and communication to internal and external Bertha audiences
  • Advise leadership and cross-functional teams on data and technology strategy related to grants and program management, implications relative to grantee network, web and other technology areas
  • Empowering and educating staff to better manage and understand data to support them in their existing projects and programs
  • Prepare grant recommendations and documentation in collaboration with Directors and Officers
  • Maintain accurate records of applications, approvals and payments
  • Maintain and update budgets and grant data management systems
  • Directly Liaise with Grantees and their financial representatives, communicating with cultural sensitivity and addressing their concerns
  • Coordinate with Directors for external communications with grantees on grant agreements and payment processes


Personal Specification

  • Highly experienced in nonprofit & philanthropy sector, with specific experience in grant administration, monitoring and evaluation, impact measurement or another relevant field
  • A background in human rights and/or excellent understanding of global human rights (desirable)
  • Demonstrable experience of leading organisational change work as a team or project manager
  • Ability to be proactive, working both autonomously on own responsibilities and collaboratively in teams
  • Excellent numerical skills and financial data analysis
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines with excellent attention to detail
  • A good communicator with proven experienced at working with diverse colleagues and partner organisations
  • Flexibility when approaching tasks and willingness to learn and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Proven advanced IT skills including Salesforce, Google Suite and MS Office applications
  • Willingness to develop further Salesforce Trailhead certifications and explore cutting edge opportunities to achieve our goals and objectives
  • An understanding of data protection and security, such as GDPR and other regulatory compliance issues that affect data management and utilisationn
