Harris Hill is recruiting for a Head of Finance on a 9-month fixed term contract for this disability charity based in London

- Salary £50,000pa
- Location: Home based/With 1 day a week working in their offices in London
- Hours: Full time, 37 hours a week
- Report to: Director of Finance, People & Facilities
- Direct reports: 2 Finance posts

MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB

The Head of Finance is primarily responsible for overseeing the accuracy of the charity's financial transactions and accounting records, and in ensuring that it manages its payments and receipts effectively.

The Head of Finance is responsible for ensuring that all finance procedures are followed, ensuring adherence to month end and year end controls.

This role will be accountable for the effective delivery of the finance function, financial control, finance operations and the management and development of a small team, as well as working closely with internal and external stakeholders.

This role will be responsible for preparation of the working papers, and assisting the Director of Finance, People and Resources in leading on the annual audit and through to audit sign-off. The role also manages a team of Finance Officers and will need to train, develop, and motivate them to reach their full potential.

DUTIES
Statutory
- Liaison with the external auditors and management of the audit process for all entities
- Preparation of statutory financial statements and narrative
- Submissions to Companies House and The Charities Commission with the Head of Governance
- Filing of tax returns - Corporation Tax and supervision of PAYE
- Supervision of pension filings

Financial Accounting
- Preparation of monthly financial accounting
- Ownership of balance sheet accounts and completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations supervising Reconciliations Officer and Finance Officer
- Responsibility for accounting for restricted funds and working with relevant budget holders
- Responsible for managing relationship with payroll bureau and accurate posting of monthly payroll journals.

Financial Controls
- Ownership of the financial controls for transactions and accounting
- Close collaboration with the fundraising department on correct accounting and data capture
- Regular updating of financial controls documentation with stakeholders

Systems
- Ownership of the finance system and chart of accounts
- Act as superuser and provide training to new users
- Plan and manage the delivery of regular system updates
- Suggest improvements to the systems and software and ways of working to increase efficiency or provide a better service to managers
