Press Officer

Job description

Harris Hill is currently recruiting a Press Officer ASAP until the end of January 2019 on a full time, temporary basis with a health charity.

Key skills / qualities
Knows what makes a good story and how to write compelling press releases
Experience of working with case studies or vulnerable people and preparing them for use in the media.
Ability to maintain the charity's case study database and ensure the charity follows data protection and safeguarding protocols at all times.
Working with other teams across the charity to identify and develop (interview and write up) newsworthy case studies for multi-channel use (press, digital, marketing, campaigns etc.)
An understanding of social media and how it can complement PR activity
Build and maintain charity media lists, ensuring all contact is recorded and lists are accurate
Support the media team with administrative tasks as necessary, including helping with preparation for events and photocalls and booking meetings, training and travel.

Desirable experience of working with celebrities and a good understanding of the celebrity market

Basic daily duties
Compiling daily media coverage reports
Writing press releases and news stories for the the website
Helping the media team to proactively sell-in news stories
Speaking to case studies about their experiences and proactively pitching these to the media as well as working with the digital team and Content Manager to deliver engaging content for our publications and online channels
With support from the Media and PR Manager, project manage the delivery of effective communications for specific pieces of work, liaising with other teams across the charity, including the wider communications and digital teams, as required.


We are ideally looking for someone who already works in the voluntary sector because of the nature of the case study work it is vital that we get someone in who understands how sensitive this can be.
