Programme Officer

Job description

A charity are looking for a Programme Officer to oversee the Foundation's law programme.

The programme funds fellowships for lawyers around the world and has a strong network of alumini globally.

The Programme Officer to be responsible for day-to-day coordination of the programme's grant making, program administration and network-building. The position requires some international travel that will include some weekends

Key Responsibilities:
-Contribute to the charity's programme's strategy development
-Develop and ensure compliance with multi-year, multi-currency program budget
-Participate in Foundation-wide cross-programmatic work, including by identifying cross-programmatic aspects and potential in the work of Partners
-Be the primary point of contact for the programme's Partners and other legal grantees, inviting renewal proposals, addressing questions or concerns and communicating board decisions
-Review and process grant proposals to be considered by the board, including scrutinizing budgets, clarifying questions with applicants and overseeing the preparation of grant paperwork
-Monitor and evaluate grants through the review of narrative and financial reports
-Liaise with the Grants Coordinator to ensure timely disbursement of grants and maintenance of grant records in Salesforce
-Oversee global implementation of the Fellowship Program and continuously improve the Fellowship Program
-Manage all communication with fellows including on-boarding, orientation and queries
-Enable the Advisory Committee to keep Alumni and Fellows connected in their regions, to suggest improvements to the Fellowship Program and to engage in planning and delivery of events
-Track the progression of Alumni on an annual basis as way to maintain contact and to assess program impact
-Proactively connect Fellows, Alumni and Partner organizations across the global network where there is synergy and potential for collaboration or exchange of knowledge
-Proactively identify opportunities for Network support, including nominations for human rights awards, publication of political statements, etc.
-Curate Network interactions including face-to-face meetings, calls and social media interactions
-Assist with content planning for, and delivery of events for Fellows, Alumni and senior Network representatives together
-Manage communications for the programmes, including webpage content, social media and blog posts etc.

Skills and Experience required:
-A university degree and at least five years work experience in the social justice/human rights sector
-Project/programme management experience with a successful track record of managing complex, large-scale projects and producing high quality work to deadline and within budget
-Excellent interpersonal skills, with energy an empathy needed to cultivate relationships and earn trust and respect of stakeholders across jurisdictions and cultures
-A strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to implement, follow-through and give attention to detail
-Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and to maintain focus and direction in a dynamic and changing environment
-Ability to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines
-Ability and willingness to travel internationally
-Ideally a background in law and/or excellent understanding of global human rights law and practice
-Language skills would be hugely advantageous in particular French, Spanish and/or Arabic
