Senior Climate Change/Disaster Risk Consultants

An international development organisation are looking for Consultants in their Climate Change and Disaster Risk Portfolio.


The Climate Change and Disaster Risk team supports governments in low and middle income countries, and the international community more widely, to adapt to climate change, to mitigate future risk and to encourage low-carbon growth. They do this through a combination of research, programme design, policy development and implementation, organisational reform and complex evaluations.

There is scope to shape the content of the role to match your interests and profile, drawing on a range of possible options including leading the organisation's research and learning to inform the global debate, building the organisation's profile with funders and recipient governments and managing large programmes to deliver impact on the ground. You will provide high quality technical inputs to a range of projects and support the management of other consultants. You will work with the Climate Change and Disaster Risk team leader to deliver the portfolio's strategic objectives and contribute to business development activities.

There are 2 roles available (one focused on Climate Change and the other for Disaster Risk). Their offices are based in Oxford but they allow flexible and remote working with travel to the office 1 or 2 days perr week.

Skills and Experience required:
-Degree and post-graduate qualification in relevant discipline (e.g., economics, climate change, disaster risk, development studies).
-Excellent knowledge and understanding of policy and institutional issues relating to climate change or disaster risk, including current trends in policy and practice
-The ability to apply this knowledge analytically and practically in an international consulting context, but candidates do not necessarily require prior consulting experience
-Experience of working at a senior level, ideally with senior government officials and staff of international development organisations
-Excellent communication skills, particularly in presenting complex issues to a generalist audience, both verbally and in writing
-Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver commitments on time and on budget
