Head of Philanthropy

Job description

I am delighted to be worked with a wonderful local charity caring for hundreds of people across eastern Hertfordshire each year.

The hospice supports patients and their families who are living with life-limiting illnesses and conditions, including cancer, heart failure or respiratory illness, and neurological conditions such as motor neurone disease. They help people to live pain- and symptom-free so they can make the most of the time they have left.

Demand for their life-changing, compassionate care has never been higher, and they are now supporting more families than ever before. All of their services are free of charge to those who need them, but they are not without cost, meaning the hospice must raise 7 million every year to guarantee the future of our care.

They are looking for a Head of Philanthropy to join the team on a Maternity Cover Contract.

Location: At least 2 days in the hospice in Hertfordshire

Salary: 50,000 pro rata (30 hours per week)

Contract: Maternity Cover

We are looking for an experienced Head of Philanthropy, with a strong track record of Major Gifts fundraising and stakeholder management to play an important role in increasing hospice income, building upon recent successes in this area of fundraising.

Working alongside Trustees and other stakeholders, you will manage a portfolio of key supporters, identify and research new prospects, develop compelling proposals and manage a range of different relationships.

The successful candidate will have significant philanthropy & major gifts fundraising experience with a proven track record securing five-figure gifts and above. You will also have experience of peer-led fundraising and working with senior stakeholders. Event management experience is preferable. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to relate and engage with a wide range of audiences.
