Programmes Director

Job description

The Advocacy Academy is an activist youth movement of leaders fighting for justice and equality. We serve as the political home for grassroots youth organising and the catalyst for collective action. Our Advocates' lives have been directly shaped by living in an unjust world, and we exist to turn their anger into action.

We are young, dynamic, ambitious, and unapologetic, and we are looking for someone to join us who is as passionate as we are about building the world as it should be.

Every single decision at The Advocacy Academy is taken by our Advocates as part of a cyclical leadership model . After the Fellowship programme our young people continue to organise and grow with us, leading our programmes, working with our partner organisations, and launching campaigns as members of the Movement.

The Advocacy Academy are looking for a Programmes Director.

Programmes Director - The Advocacy Academy

Location: Brixton, South London

Salary: £47,000 - £55,000 per annum

Contract: Fixed-term contract for two years, with potential for extension

The Programmes Director will work closely with the CEO and oversee the most transformative youth social justice programmes in the country, guiding our Advocates and Alumni towards real and lasting impact. You will set expectations for a young person's learning journey in the context of the broader justice ecosystem in the UK, needs within the Movement, and feedback and requests from the Alumni themselves. You will clearly position our training within justice and ecology to ensure that it remains the engine powering our campaigns. You will identify opportunities for collaboration and learning across the different programmes, encouraging programme leads to see themselves and their role as part of a bigger whole and wider journey of an individual through The Advocacy Academy.

We are looking for someone exceptional to be the Director of Programmes for The Advocacy Academy. We are looking for a Director capable of envisioning the full journey of an Advocate through their time with The Advocacy Academy from their application to join the Fellowship or Spark programme to their transition into a staff member, someone who is excited to ensure the educational and operational excellence required to deliver this life-changing experience - and who's bursting with ideas to make it even better year-on-year.
We're seeking someone with a track record of delivering outstanding youth work and education, and a passion for managing a high-performing team. You will have a strong moral compass, experience working within political or anti-oppression spaces, a love of making good trouble, and a proven commitment to building people's capacity to challenge the status quo.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 17th October 2021
